Laura Cousins
Laura currently works as a community musician and sensory storyteller with groups and individuals who have additional needs, using music and sensory stimuli to make connections and communicate. Laura is also a director of Lifemusic CIC, a community music organisation dedicated to re-connecting individuals and groups to their own innate musicality.

As well as being a Lifemusic practitioner and a trained Remo Health RHYTHMS facilitator, Laura is one of the first recipients of an Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Drumming from the Therapeutic Drumming Foundation in Nottingham, and has now taken Arthur Hull's Drum Circle Facilitator training three times. She is an accomplished guitarist, singer, percussionist and songwriter.

Laura believes that everyone is musical and that there is no such thing as a 'wrong' note. She runs workshops and programmes that demonstrate how improvised music-making using drums and other instruments is a unique activity, combining proven health-promoting strategies - including self-expression, group support, nurturing, exercise, and stress reduction.

In the past Laura has worked with groups of new mothers and their babies, very young children, schools, childminders and playgroups; in day-centres for adults with learning difficulties; in rehabilitation sessions for those with acquired brain injuries; with women's groups and with people for whom English was a second language; in care homes for the elderly and Sure Start centres. She pursues a rigorous programme of continued professional and self-development.

Laura is well qualified to show how making music in a facilitated group can promote life skills, encourage relaxation and focus, enhance non-verbal communication, foster creative expression, improve individual confidence and encourage participation in a group activity. She is married with two children, three dogs and six hens, and lives in Dorset.
